Mirko Beljanski’s research on Rauwolfia vomitoria
Rauwolfia vomitoria is extracted from the bark of the roots of Rauwolfia vomitoria, an African tree. Mirko Beljanski noted that once reserpine was removed from the Rauwolfia vomitoria extract, the extract had very low toxicity and no effect on hypertension. Instead, Beljanski focused on a secondary alkaloid present in Rauwolfia vomitoria: alstonine, which was isolated in 1952 and studied since.13
Mirko Beljanski was able to perfect a Rauwolfia vomitoria extract standardized in alstonine, but devoid of reserpine. Mirko Beljanski’s Rauwolfia vomitoria extract has a protective effect on cells, promoting healthy cellular regulation, particularly when the hormonal system is challenged.14*
